ERSCP

The European Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production (ERSCP) Society is a research and action oriented society that provides a platform for the stimulation, development and dissemination of new initiatives aimed at fostering the implementation of concepts and approaches for (i) sustainable consumption and production, (ii) sustainable products and services, (iii) local and regional sustainability-related initiatives, and (iv) urban sustainability-oriented initiatives. It started as a network around a series of conferences under the name European Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production (ERSCP) that started back in 1994 when the first Roundtable was organised in Graz, Austria. Its members present work from a wide range of backgrounds - from the specific to the holistic. Until 2002 the series of conferences were known as the European Roundtable for Cleaner Production.

The 19th ERSCP is organized by the Institute of Sustainable Sciences and Technology of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech, and will take place in Barcelona. The main theme of the conference is Circular Europe for Sustainability: Design, Production and Consumption.

Institute for Sustainability Science And Technology

The Institute for Sustainability Science And Technology (ISST) is a research Institute of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – Barcelona Tech that promotes and carries out research on sustainability. Its mission is to generate technical and conceptual tools to create a more sustainable production model, and to collaborate in the UPC’s endeavour to provide scientific and technical support for social, cultural and economic progress. The ISST coordinates postgraduate programmes in Sustainability (MSc and PhD programmes) as well as other training initiatives and professional development programmes in Sustainability. Among its aims it is worth mentioning: Open up sustainability research to as many of the University’s researchers as possible in the manner that is deemed most appropriate. Make the management of the University, as a source of research needs and a field of study and experimentation, a focus of the Institute’s activity. Disseminate and spark debate on the results of research carried out at the IS.UPC, both to the university community and to society as a whole. Engage with society via economic activities and a range of social entities and give support to civil society’s demands, with the aim of promoting progress towards more sustainable models.

Founded in 1971, The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) is a public university consisted of 21 schools, faculties and colleges of Barcelona province within engineering, architecture, technology and science. The UPC is committed to local society and to change. Its guiding principles are freedom, justice, democracy, solidarity, cooperation, sustainability, efficiency, transparency and social responsibility. The research carried out at UPC leads the field in many areas and is closely linked to the interests of society, and especially to the production sector. The driving force behind the research consists of 42 departments and some university institutes with a growing number of specific research centers and broadly-based centers in collaboration with other institutions.
