19th European Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production – Circular Europe for Sustainability: Design, Production and Consumption

Sustainable Consumption and Care

The purpose of the session is to initiate debate between the so far mainly separate research debates on sustainable consumption and on care. Both are engaged toward ensuring a good life and increasing wellbeing. Sustainable consumption, however, often focuses on (more) sustainable purchase decisions while care to a large degree takes place outside the market sphere. We are interested in care in the context of sustainable consumption as well as in sustainability in the context of care. Based on an initial framing of care as ‘protecting someone or something and providing what that person or thing needs’ the session intends to elaborate how we can maintain, continue human wellbeing as well as the natural environment in order to live a good life. The workshop will be kicked off with short initial presentation(s). The majority of the time will be used for exchange and discussion. Ad hoc presentations by participants are possible. Planed outcome of the session is the design of a larger two-day workshop on the issue to be organised by SCORAI-Europe in Spring 2020
