Strategies of education in sustainable consumption implemented in Bogota (Colombia)

The development of the Colombian environmental policy, in terms of production and sustainable consumption, began in 1997 with the formulation and adoption of the Cleaner Production National Policy of the Ministry of the Environment. In 2002, the Ministry of Environment, Housing and Territorial Development (MAVDT) issued its National Strategic Plan of Green Markets and the National Policy of Sustainable Production and Consumption, in order to promote and relate environmental improvement and productive transformation to the competitiveness of the country's companies. At the district level, in 2003, the Sustainable Production Policy for the Capital District was adopted, which aims to improve the quality of life of the population, the environment and business competitiveness in Bogotá. In 2017, the environmental authority of the Capital District identifies the need to update the mentioned policy and initiates the reformulation towards a new District Policy on Sustainable Production and Consumption, a process that, to date, has not ended. The research presented, included the analysis of education programs on sustainable consumption and green markets, and contains the diagnosis of the strategies implemented in Bogotá on this subject, as well as an analysis of its contribution to sustainable consumption. The research has been developed under a quantitative descriptive approach, based on primary and secondary information sources, and surveys. The results, to date, are preliminary; however, it is expected that they provide information that contributes to the reformulation of district policy and provide tools for analysis at the national level.
